A Request to the Moonbeam Team Regarding the Migration and Staking

First of all, I want to say that this is not a complaint or an attack against the team. It is a genuine concern that I believe deserves attention before the migration is completed.

Over the last few days, I noticed several users asking very basic questions in the official Telegram group:

How do I unstake?

Will the network stop?

Am I going to lose everything?

One user only discovered that staking rewards had already been reduced to zero and that Moonbeam/Moonriver are migrating to Base. This made me realize that many community members are still unaware of what is happening.

The current unstaking process requires a 7-day unbonding period.

This creates an obvious problem:

If a user discovers the migration on July 25th or later, they can no longer complete the unbonding process before the July 31st deadline.

In other words, the people who are least informed are also the ones most likely to miss the migration window.

For this reason, I suggested in the Telegram group that the team consider launching a governance referendum—or any other suitable governance action—to temporarily remove or bypass the unbonding period, allowing all stakers to access their own funds before the migration deadline.

I believe this would benefit everyone:

It would reduce support requests.

It would prevent unnecessary frustration.

It would allow more users to migrate successfully.

It would demonstrate that the team values every community member, not only the most active ones.

I understand that governance and protocol changes are not trivial, but the team has already taken governance actions related to staking during this migration (such as ending staking rewards). That is why I believe it is reasonable to also consider a measure that helps users recover access to their funds in time.

One moderator kindly replied that my suggestion had already been forwarded to the team, and I appreciate that.

I also want to make something very clear.

From a purely economic perspective, one could argue that fewer tokens migrating might even reduce the circulating supply on Base. However, that is not how I choose to look at this situation.

These tokens belong to real people who supported Moonbeam and Moonriver for years. Behind every wallet is a person, a family, and their own financial circumstances.

I believe the success of this migration should be measured not only by technical execution, but also by how many community members are able to participate in it successfully.

I sincerely hope the team will consider whether an additional governance action—or another practical solution—could help ensure that no one is unintentionally left behind.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

you should join the moonbeam team you seem to genuinely care about helping people and the project! You should seriously consider this!

Thanks, but that’s not how things work. Furthermore, I don’t know if the team actually wants someone who cares about the community.

On Base, the entire GLMR total supply from Moonbeam has already been minted. This suggests that no additional minting is required after the migration. If that’s the case, then any unclaimed GLMR could simply remain locked in a claim contract and be released later to the rightful owner based on the snapshot. If Moonbeam is shutting down completely, this seems like the only way to allow claims after July 31 without relying on the original chain. Could the team clarify whether unclaimed GLMR will remain locked on Base until claimed, and whether those tokens will be counted as circulating or non-circulating supply?

This is absolutely a valid suggestion.
