Summary of Changes
Moonbeam Runtime 4202 — What it means for you
Runtimes 4201 & 4202 introduce Ethereum compatibility updates, XCM improvements, and runtime optimizations.
Ethereum updates
- Added support for the Osaka fork (EIP-7939) and additional EVM updates including EIP-7883, EIP-7823, and EIP-7825.
Breaking changes
-
MODEXP inputs are now limited to 1024 bytes. Calls exceeding this limit will fail and consume all gas.
-
Transactions with gas limits above 16,777,216 will be rejected during validation.
-
EIP-7883 increases ModExp gas costs, which may affect some contracts.
XCM updates
Other improvements
-
Improved fee calculations and runtime weight generation.
-
Dependency updates across Polkadot-SDK, Frontier, and Moonkit.
